Libertines duo reunite to pen stage musical

Pete Doherty and his former bandmate Carl Barat have reunited to write a stage musical together, it has been confirmed.
The pair, who were formerly in The Libertines, will write the musical for the Donmar Warehouse in London.
A spokesperson for the theatre, which is located in London's Covent Garden, said its associate director, actor Douglas Hodge, had been working with the songwriting duo.
The project, however, was "very much in the early stages of development, with no deadlines attached", she said.
According to various reports, the musical will document the struggles of an up-and-coming rock 'n' roll band.
Last April, Doherty and Barat performed together for the first time since the Libertines split up in 2004.
Both have new band projects, with Doherty fronting Babyshambles and Barat currently working on his second album for Dirty Pretty Things.
Their one-off reunion in April followed an interview with Barat in which he said he would be "happy" to work with Doherty again "at some point".
At last week's NME Awards, Barat told the Sunday Mirror he had been approached by the Donmar to write a musical with Doherty.
He said: "The theatre wants lots of new songs. We'll probably have to write about 20."

Prodigy Hits the Billboard Top 40 for the 10th Time With New Album H.N.I.C. Pt. 2

For the third time as a solo performer and the 7th time as part of the platinum-selling duo Mobb Deep, Prodigy has released an album which has debuted into the Billboard Top 40 Album Sales Chart. While "The Life," the first commercial single from H.N.I.C. Pt. 2 maintains its position as the #1 song on Billboard's HOT Singles & Sales Chart for the second week in a row, the album debuted on the Top 40 Album Sales Chart (#36) and made its "Hot Shot Entry" at #3 on the R&B/hip-hop charts. This achievement marks Prodigy's highest chart appearance on Billboard's R&B/Hip-Hop Album Charts in his decade long career. He shares the Top 40 ranking with such star-studded artists as Mariah Carey, Ashlee Simpson, Alan Jackson, Michael Buble among others.

Always thought provoking and entertaining, when given news of album's debut on the charts Prodigy had this to say,

"I'm on a mission with this album to mix head bangers with the type of lyrics that would bless your dome at the same time. I put my heart into this album, told the truth, knowing that I wasn't gonna be around to hear your thoughts. So far, the fans have spoken and I appreciate them for holding me down."

In a joint statement Peter Kuys, chairman of AAO Music and Arie Deutsch, President of Voxonic stated, "The chart entries are a stunning indication that we're on the right track! The list of artists who have achieved 10 home runs in a row is an exclusive one and we're extremely proud to be representing such a legend." Produced by The Alchemist and Havoc and released by AAO Music in association with Voxonic, the critically acclaimed album has already been placed on many "Best Of The Year," lists.

The song, "Dirty New Yorker," originally on H.N.I.C. Pt. 2 will be featured prominently on the Grand Theft Auto IV game and soundtrack. The video to "Dirty New Yorker" is also a bonus on the album. A full DVD video version of H.N.I.C. Pt. 2 including Grand Theft Auto IV's "Dirty New Yorker," will be released on June 16th.

Glastonbury Festival registration opens

Ticket registration has opened for this year's Glastonbury Festival.
Fans who want to get hold of one of the 137,500 tickets must provide contact details and a passport photo in order to receive a registration number.
The number does not guarantee entry to the festival at Worthy Farm in Pilton, however fans will not be able to buy a ticket without one.
They have until Friday 14 March to register their interest via the festival's website. Tickets will then go on sale on Sunday 6 April.
Glastonbury founder Michael Eavis has confirmed legendary US crooner Neil Diamond will play the Sunday headline slot.
Eavis also said this year's Saturday headliner was a hip-hop "legend" from New York, but wouldn't confirm or deny if it was platinum-selling recording artist Jay-Z.
He said: "We're trying to get youngsters to the festival this year. Hopefully the headliner will appeal to them. Traditionally we've had a very white line-up and I'm moving away from that."
The Glastonbury Festival will take place from 27 to 29 June.

GAVIN ROSSDALE

Wanderlust (Interscope): D

How hot is Rossdale anyway? Is the former Bush frontman Brad Pitt hot or just Ashton Kutcher hot? For his sake, the mimbo better be Brad because he’ll be selling “Wanderlust” on looks alone. Warning: Stop reading if you’ve got a weak stomach because you’re about to dive into some vomit-inducing imagery. Take four parts “Glycerine,” add one part James Blunt, one part mid-’80s Queen and one part Phil Collins in his “Another Day in Paradise” phase. That’s right, gloomy, faux-arty prog, adult contemporary post-grunge. Only ex-Helmet guitarist Chris Traynor’s playing elevates this from F status. For the 10-second intro riff, download: “This is Happiness.”

Inside 'American Idol' Finale: David Cook Was The Fan Favorite ... Until The David Archuleta Show Began

LOS ANGELES — Now this is a big stage.

After checking out the 10-row studio that housed the other "American Idol" top-12 shows, being part of the Nokia Theatre's 7,100-person audience was a serious change of pace. The vocal crowd instantly judged every move made at the "Idol" finale's new home — and it was a David Cook-leaning bunch.

When the warm-up comic polled the fans before the show to see which David they were backing, Cook got the loudest response by far, while David Archuleta garnered the most high-pitched squeals (go figure). Plus, our unofficial survey of Nokia's "Idol"-swag vendors found that the "Vote Cook" T-shirt was the booths' best-seller, topping generic show merchandise and the Archuleta tee.

But as anyone who watched at home can confirm, that all changed when the prolonged boxing metaphor — er, show — kicked off. The same audience that had been in Cook's corner preshow (pugilistic puns are unavoidable for us too!) apparently didn't want the sun to go down on Little David just yet. Archuleta had the Nokia JumboTrons partly to thank for the sudden support, since every squinty-eyed close-up was broadcast for even the smitten teen girls in the last row of the balcony to enjoy. (Another JumboTron observation: Cook's faux-hawk made him look a lot like '90s heartthrob Shane West, no?)

The Archuleta fans in the house also backed their boy with some seriously creative posters. Unlike the trite Cook offerings — "David Is Cookin' Tonight" was spotted on more than one sign — the ArchAngels came up with "David-A Is a Hot-A," "Nobody's Betta Than David Archuleta" and "Our David Is Fun-Sized" (no joke).

(Read "American Idol" expert Jim Cantiello's live blog of the show in the MTV Newsroom.)

You know what else is fun-sized? These bonus tidbits from a fan's-eye-view:

» The top 12 were back in the house, filing into their seats just minutes before the show's start to thunderous applause and a standing ovation.

» A buzz could be heard throughout the auditorium when Ryan mentioned over the first video package that the prize title was reserved for a select few, as photos popped up of Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and ... Chris Daughtry? Wait, that dude didn't even make it to the main event! Apparently the "Idol" producers wanted to remind us that a male finalist can succeed — just not a male winner.

» While it was tough to spot all the celebs and keep an eye on the finalists' families in the ginormous Nokia Theatre, one man was unmistakable: "Idol" Executive Producer Nigel Lythgoe. In an auditorium of dark suits and evening gowns, his red-and-gray "Where's Waldo?"-esque rugby shirt was impossible to miss.

» The antsy judges actually stuck to their podium during breaks for this show. Were they minding their manners for the finale, or did the fan-packed (and much lengthier) route to the exit make them stay put?

» As soon as Simon Cowell called the night a "knockout," hundreds of audience members rushed for the exits. If they had waited just a few seconds, Ruben Studdard could have celebrated them home. Sorry, Velvet Teddy Bear.

Toni Braxton's Las Vegas shows canceled

Singer has been ill since April 7

A Las Vegas hotel has announced that the rest of Toni Braxton's scheduled shows have been canceled so the singer can focus on her health.
The show, "Toni Braxton: Revealed," at the Flamingo Las Vegas had been dark since the 40-year-old entertainer was hospitalized April 7 with what hotel officials said at the time was a complaint of chest pain. The show had been scheduled to resume June 6.
Harrah's Entertainment spokeswoman Deanna Petit says she could not comment on the singer's current medical condition. Braxton has been treated in the past for pericarditis, a viral inflammation of the heart.
Braxton's two-year run at the Flamingo Las Vegas was scheduled to end in August.
